Description

The Choral Arts Society of Utah will premiere a new work in Utah by Canadian Composer Carol Barnett.

The choir and a bluegrass ensemble will combine to produce a unique evening of entertainment.  Admission is free.  For tickets, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Bluegrass Mass Tickets, PO Box 2623, Salt Lake City, UT 84110.  Only 500 seats are available and tickets will go fast.

There's Bluegrass Music, deeply rooted in the settlement of America, and there is a Mass, religious music, originating in the Roman Catholic Church.  So can the two forms of music be combined and performed?  With Music Director and Conductor Sterling Poulson on the Podium, the Choral Arts Society of Utah will present the Utah premiere performance of a new work entitled The World Beloved, (a Bluegrass Mass) at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center on March 27th at 8:00pm.  It is the creation of Canadian Composer Carol Burnett and is a great mix of bluegrass sounds and the beauty of choral singing.

Utah Musicians Rich Dixon, Guitar; Theresa Ellis, Fiddle; Nate Keller, Banjo; Lars Yorgason, Bass Fiddle; and Mike Ross on the Mandolin will combine their fantastic talents for this one-night only performance.  Soprano Marilynn Ricks Bair, Alto Rebecca Davies, and Tenor Michael Ricks will perform with the choir.

To round out and evening of great choral music, the choir will perform additional choral selections by Cyril Jenkins, John Rutter, and a choral adaptation by the Late Dr. Jay Welch, In God's Own Time.

The Choral Arts Society of Utah continues to provide a great variety of music throughout the year, from our more classical works at our Spring Concert to the great patriotic selections at the Armed Forces Day Concert at the Murray Park Amphitheater in May.  We continue with a great evening of Pops at the KUTV Days of '47 Pops Concert in July at Abravanel Hall, our thematic concert in the fall, again at "The Rose", this year entitled  "In the Mood", featuring music of the 50s,  We round out the year with our Holiday Pops Concert, benefiting the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program in December at Cottonwood High School.

Don't miss this Utah premiere performance of this new and exciting work.  The 100-voice Master Chorale is working hard to make this a great evening of entertainment.  Our sponsors continue to support our efforts and we thank them for their support.

We look forward to seeing you March 27th at 8pm at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

Description

The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is a vital active hub for emerging and established artists and arts organizations. The Performing Arts Coalition conceived the project after completing a community cultural needs assessment. This center grew out of a need for additional rehearsal space for the tenants at Capitol Theatre as well as affordable performing spaces for the myriad performing arts companies that have developed over the last 25 years. Theatre Projects Consultants were hired to prepare the needs assessment and to develop a design scheme for the new performing arts center.

The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is an excellent example of a public/private funding partnership. Salt Lake County and the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City are the public components of this partnership, with Salt Lake County managing the Phase II construction and ultimately operating the facility once completed. Over seven million dollars was raised by the private sector to complete the partnership. The facility is named after major donor I. J. Wagner's mother, Rose. The Leona Wagner Black Box Theater is named after Mr. Wagner's sister and the 500-seat theatre is named after Mr. Wagner's late wife, Jeanné.
